Debate Paper: Gun Control
Gun control has become a major issue in the U.S. Over all different sides are taken and
the opinions are very diversified. Arguments for either or have become rather understandable
based on how much depth has been put on both sides of the debate. Gun control is an
extremely controversial but important issue to address.
Within the listed articles multiple issues are laid out for thought. (Most vividly is crime
rates in the U.S are heavily higher than that of Nations with less gun control like Britain or
Japan). (Another issue is what did the founding fathers have in mind concerning the second
amendment of the constitution as well as the guidelines as to what men should do with them
when not in the active militia “Lee, Stingle Pg.1”). With the issues one that hits closer to home
for some is if gun control is increased does it infringe on the rights of gun owners as American
citizens. Will more gun control cause less violent crimes in the United States and if so what
ways should they be controlled. (This is difficult with so many in circulation “Balaro, Banley
Pg.3”)
Both sides having their own points here is what the benefits of each offer. Stricter gun
control offers a more regulated system. With this system less lethal fire arms would be at
disposable for mass shootings. (This in initial glance would not affect people lacking an intent to
kill for common reason suggests that the average man does not require an assault weapon for
hunting or skeet shooting “Bowman, Newton Pg.2”). With more control as well understanding
what guns were involved with an accident and a better understanding of how to prevent a
crime can occur for protective powers. On the side of less gun control advantages exist as well.
The common man feels more secure and confident knowing he can legally carry and defend
himself in the manor those attacking him would attempt to harm him. Also no rights of the
constitution would be called into question and the manufacturing of firearms wouldn’t hamper
companies any more than it does.
The reasoning in this debate is difficult. Fallacies may exist in some eyes. What some
view as law abiding citizens having equal protection to harm criminals trying to bring them are
seen as more circulation of fire arms to be gained by criminals. A very strong alternative could
be laws attacking gun violence instead of gun ownership. Aim could be taken at the mentally ill
and preventing school shootings which has become a recent topic in recent memory because of
Sandy Hook.
Families in society do have concerns with this. It could greatly affect their lives based
upon how can they protect themselves with how much gun control is limited. As well as if there
is less control how easily can criminals can harm them through gun violence.
Gun control is a controversial issue but understanding the best choice is the best
decision. Understanding what to do takes time and is difficult to ascertain what the real answer
is. Trial and error is not an option in this specific ordeal in the United States.
In Favor of More Gun Control
Gun violence is a sensitive issue that hits close to home for more than it should. So
many people in the world and some come into a way of having more power and chose to
express it through the harmful effects of gun violence. More gun control statistically should
lower the rate of how many people suffer from this given topic
Countries with more fire arms control like Japan and Britain have way less gun violence
than that of the United States. (100,000 Americans are shot each year “Sileknat pg.1”). With
more gun control the people who would choose to do harm to others have a much more
difficult time in doing so and can be stopped easier. With more gun control massive shootings
can be cut back if not completely prevented.
Automatic weapons are the main topic of pro-gun control advocates. A larger enemy
might be high capacity magazines over all. (These weapons were not available in the United
States until around the 1980’s which is roughly when massive shootings began to sky rocket
“New Scientist page 3”). With the ability to shoot so much without a pause for a reload there is
almost no chance of defending ones self. Attacking this issue should take equal importance with
automatic fire arms.
Superior background checks and mental evaluations can help prevent massacre. Now
most shootings in the U.S are not linked to the mentally insane. (Most mass shooting are linked
to those who are mentally unstable “Cook Pg.1”). Average shootings are hard to prevent
normally from someone who would find any way to do it. Stopping everyone is unrealistic.
Preventing mass shootings is very well within reach.
More gun control can effectively cut back gun violence. Through controlling fire arms
more carefully shootings can be helped to be prevented or made too difficult for a criminal to
attempt. Gun control should be highly considered.
