Originality… Remember that using the SCMP magazine template is the easiest task but also the least creative To score the very highest marks it is often better to identify a niche in the market and create an entirely new magazine for a youth audience. Start by analysing what already exists for your age-group, both in Hong Kong and internationally .
Film Trailer Project Produce a trailer of your choice aimed at a teenage audience. Decide on the genre of your trailer & analyse two existing texts from this genre to determine the codes and conventions Conduct market research (you decide the approach that will work for you…questionnaires, online questionnaires, surveys, interviews, website statistics, demographic analysis) amongst your audience to decide what will appeal to them. Surfaquarium- What constitutes a good internet resource? How will you justify your source?

Pre-Production Artifact Produce your storyboard and make it is as visually impressive as possible. (MAC users have good software for this task) Make sure appropriate trailer conventions (enigma, tantalizing glimpses) and generic indicators are evident. Be realistic in your choice of genre…science fiction is probably not a good idea! Produce a final evaluation in no more than 400-600 words
Feeding the Flames of Industry! This is a new task and potentially the hardest one although also the most relevant! Stages to follow: Determine your target organisation Set-up a meeting with an appropriate member of the organisation. Draft a letter on headed school notepaper if necessary. (This may look more formal than just an e-mail) Check their website and gain as much background information as possible. Conduct an interview and consider taping it for further use in the analysis stage of the project.
… more stages Analyse 2 existing texts which will give you ideas for your own pre-production artifact Based on what you know so far, conduct market research (qualitative or quantitative) into the target audience and their needs. Display your results using appropriate software programmes. Design your pre-production artifact in as attractive a fashion as possible
Short but concise projects! A lot of wasted time has gone into pre-production projects at SIS in the past. Quantity does not mean quality. This year, I want projects to be no longer than 10-15 pages in length at maximum! By all means check out previous projects but be aware that not all of the stages actually help you to achieve high marks. If in doubt, ask Mr Ryan or I or go back to the AO’s.
Deadlines Group 1: 1 st June 3:10pm Group 2:28 th May 3:10pm Group 3: 30 th May 3:10pm This assignment only has one deadline so I would advise you to have your work marked as you produce it to know that you are doing the project correctly!
