Field AssignmentByFabiola Cabral
Igneous RockI found this rock on a wall made out of rocks. The wall is located in Los Gatos Creek Park in Coalinga, CA.Texture:Aphanitic (fine-grained)Composition:MaficBasalt
Sedimentary RockI found this rock along a wall made out of rocks in Los Gatos Creek Park, Coalinga, CAThe texture of the rock is coarse, but the gravel on it is rounded. Therefore I think it is a conglomerate sedimentary rock.
Sedimentary rockI found this rock on a wall made out of rocks as well as the previous rocks. Based on the color and texture of the rock I think that it is a sedimentary chert rock. The red variety in it can be classified as a jasper rock and it gets its color from iron oxide.
Metamorpic RockThis rock was found on a trip to La Rumorosa, Tijuana. I found out in the fields. I believe that this is a Quartzite because the texture is medium to coarse and the appearance is like one.
GravelThis is gravel I found on the side of the creek.
FaultI found this fault on my way to the Kings River.I believe it is a Dip-Slip fault.
Erosional EventThis erosional event was found in Los Gatos Creek, Coalinga, CAThis is the transport of sediment by streams. As you can see in the picture the stream transports rocks and sand materiel down the stream.
Weathering ProcessThis picture was taken in my back yard. The tank has been left out side for many months, and due to the weathering process, rusting has occurred.Rusting occurs when iron reacts with oxygen to form iron oxide.
Mass WastingAs you can see in the picture this is an example of mass wasting because a rock slide is mass wasting. Over time the rocks have been sliding down and there are a few on the side of the road.I found this rockslide on the road 198 going towards King City in Coalinga, CA.
