Morro RockExample 1 Igneous RockMorro rock is a Volcanic Plug which is approximately 22 to 23 million years old. According to San Luis Obispo quarries history it classifies the rock to be granophyre. Granophyre is a fine grained granite rock in which irregular crystals of intergrown quartz and feldspar are embedded in a groundmass of these minerals
Igneous RocksExamples 2and 3These rock were found while walking along the embarcadero in Morro Bay.I believe the light colored rock to be Scoria and the darker colored rock to a Gabbro. Both are considered igneous rock. Scoria is an extrusive igneous rock. The vesicles are formed from the release of trapped gas within the melt at the time of solidification.Gabbro is an extrusive igneous rock and is abundant in the deep ocean crust.
MetamorphicExample 4This is an example of a slate rock. I found this while walking along the Kings River. The Kings River was discovered and named in 1805. It flows from the Central Sierra Nevada’s Western slopes.
SedimentaryExample 5This looks to be siltstone. I also found this while walking along the kings river.
San Andreas FaultThis is a picture of the San Andreas fault taken in Parkfield Ca. This bridge goes from the North American Plate to the Pacific plate. The San Andreas fault is a right-lateral strike-slip fault.
Weathering This headstone is an example of Chemical weathering.
WeatheringHere is an example of oxidation. This picture is of my outdoor fire pit.
Mass Wasting This is a picture taken by the U.S. Geological Survey of the Ferguson rock slide outside of Yosemite National Park .
ErosionHere is an example of erosion which I found along side the Kings River. This farmer is slowly loosing his land as the river carries it away little by little.
Sedimentary EnvironmentsThe first example is of a Continental environment. This is a picture of sand dunes off the 41 Hwy. The second is an example of a transitional environment. It is a picture that was taken along the cost in Morro Bay.
Sedimentary EnvironmentHere is an example of a Marine environment. This picture was taken off the coast of Lahaina Hawaii . Family summer vacation.
Practical Use of Geology This is a picture of a dam along the Kings River taken in Lemoore Ca.
