George Washington Carver was born on January 5, 1864 in Diamond, Missouri to Giles and Mary Carver. He was an inventor and chemist who made important agricultural discoveries and inventions that helped poor southern families improve their diets and grow better crops. Carver was also a very religious man who donated his life savings to the George Washington Carver research foundation and was the first African American to attend Iowa State University, having a national park named after him and being one of the most prominent African Americans of his time.
