I Am A College Graduate Essay
I was a college graduate in China. After I immigrated to New York, I knew that I have to back
into school, because everything in the past is just like a piece of white paper once I entered a new
country. I need a chance to start again, to rebuild my life. Currently, I am a senior at Baruch
College, and my major is accounting. I transferred to this school from Borough of Manhattan
Community College, and already have a goal that I want to be an accountant. I had taken numerous
Accounting courses and Business courses, and over the course of my courses I have grown and
learned more, and I also found out my strength and weakness. Specially, my management courses, it
has taught me how to be me. I have learned how to express myself, how to think for myself, and

work, thus, I always give myself pressure and make it as my motivation. I saw that I could push

Through out life people go through so many hardships. Whether it be good or bad there is always
something that comes out of the situation. One of the most exciting but yet scariest events would be

Once I was finished, I gathered up my cap and gown and my car keys and headed out the door. All
the graduates had to meet in the high school library an hour before the ceremonies started, and I
promised one of my best friends Tony that we would go together. I knocked on his back door and
let myself in like I always do. All of his family members were running throughout the house trying
to get ready. I asked his mom where Tony was and she proceeded to tell me that he was in the
bathroom getting ready. I tapped on the door and walked in. He was standing in front of the
mirror with his cap and gown on. He look me straight in the eyes and said," Can you believe that
we are about to graduate?" I replied," No, it really hasn't set in yet." Tony finished getting ready,
and then we left for the high school. The parking lot was filled with all the other seniors' cars.
Tony and I walked into the library ten minutes late like usual, and the principal had already started
giving instructions. I found my place in line and then was all ears. I couldn't help but look around
at all the others. Smiles were plastered on their faces as if they had heard a hilarious joke. Once the
principal concluded his speech, the whole senior class paraded down the hallway to the commons in
two uniform lines stopping just outside the gymnasium doors. We could hear the band warming up

Analysis of the Graduate Essay
The Graduate is a great example of a film where lens and camera choices were used effectively to
convey the director's point of view. It seemed like every choice made by the director Mike Nichols
director and the director of cinematography Bob Surtees was justified. The outcome of each shot
played an important role in shaping the message of the film. The cinematography of Bob Surtees is
very complicated and thoughtful but at the same time seems poetic and spontaneous.
All of Mrs. Robinson and Benjamin's scenes pass in a musically backed montage sequence, a
segment that uses rapid editing, special effects and music to present compressed narrative

The image seems very flat. The viewer cannot focus on anything but the characters' faces. The
depth of field and depth of focus are very small. One of the reasons why this scene was shot like
that was because of the rain. Mike Nichols wanted this scene to take place on a very rainy day. Of
course no one would ever think about waiting for real rain in Beverly Hills during the summer so
they had to create it by themselves. The crew set up a rainmaker over the car in which the actors
were riding. They shot from alongside and from in front using a 500 millimeter telephoto lens
which threw the background so far out of focus that it was impossible to tell whether it was pouring
in the distance or not. This was a great example of a practical use of lenses. The Graduate, however,
was rich in many experimental uses of the camera that were mainly chosen to more directly describe
the characters' state of minds.
Thinking that confessing the truth to Elaine will solve everything, Benjamin makes a major
miscalculation. He rushes towards the house with Mrs. Robinson pursuing close behind. Here again,
the scene of Ben running towards the house was shot with a telephoto lens. This lens was chosen to
create an illusion that rain is present everywhere, not only over Ben's head. The use of the telephoto

Graduate Admissions Committee, Freshman year of undergraduate school was an overwhelming
adjustment for me. I had chosen to attend college at Edinboro University, two hours from home
and for the first time had to develop my own academic schedule, social schedule, and delegate

The Graduate "Just one word ... plastics," the statement that alone can summarize Mike Nichols'
1967 film, The Graduate. However, when Mr. McQuire tells the movie's main character, Ben

the two of them. Undoubtedly paranoid, Ben manufactures an extravagant lie to hide his personal
misconduct after the bell hop, referring to business matters, asks if "[he] is here for an affair."
However, after many awkward instances and Mrs. Robinson's continued gratuitous behavior, Ben
foolishly leaps into the affair. After countless secret meets Ben begins to realize that the relationship
is cold and emotionally empty, counter the initial promising thoughts of being with an older
woman. This due to Mrs. Robinson's abilities to belittle Ben and get what she wants, regardless his
opinions. Yet because the fling had no positive affect to his self confidence, when Ben try's to
obtain more from the affair he finds himself in awkward and uncomfortable conversations that Mrs.
Robinson has no interest in discussing with him. In one case Ben catch's himself in a discussion
about the imperfect fabricated marriage she has with her husband, and how she only married him
because she became pregnant with their only daughter, Elaine. Although The Braddock's feel that
what they are doing to there son is perfectly fine, they fail to see the damage they are causing.

My job is also unpredictable. An emergency could come up at any time. If an emergency occurs in
the middle of the night; I am expected to attend to it. Thankfully, this does not occur very often. At
this point because of staff turnover; among other things, I have a never–ending pile of work on my
desk. I realize that I cannot finish everything in one day. To combat my pile of work, I wake up
early and go in to work before most employees get there. It is very quiet and I can get a large
amount of work done without much interruption. Although I could work from dusk until dawn
and still not be finished, I have to choose a place to stop so that I can go home and tend to other
obligations. Because I come in early, I can leave earlier so that I am able to be home at the same
time as my family. This way I can eat dinner with them before I begin my schoolwork. At home,
some of my housework suffers because of my schoolwork. I am still getting into a routine, and I
know that I will perfect it as time goes on. I prefer to make sure that all of my school obligations
are met earlier in the week if possible so that I can enjoy the weekend with my family and do any
housework that I have neglected during the week. Of course, this is not always possible, but I think
that if I can get the majority of my work done during the week; I will not have to worry so much
about the weekends.

I Am A Graduate Student Essay
As the fall semester is quickly winding down, I often catch myself reflecting on the fact that I will
be completing my second semester as a graduate student. It certainly still is a surreal feeling for
myself. I cannot even fathom the fact that I will be able to say that I have gotten through two
semesters of graduate school. The reason I bring this up is because when I first started the graduate
program, I would often wonder whether I belonged in graduate school. There was a sense of
self–doubt. Therefore, I had trouble believing that I was worthy of being in this program. And, as
ignorant as it may sound, I attributed my acceptance into the program to luck and fate. I believe
one major reason for feeling that way is due to the fact that I am the first one in my family to attend
college, so I felt incapable of achieving something that had never been done in my family.
Furthermore, self–reflection allows for me to reflect back on my collegiate journey and reminisce
on my own personal obstacles and challenges that I have dealt with. It also allows for me to be a
more effective mentor. I see myself as a mentor who is empathic and understanding of those students
who are also first–generation college students who may be experiencing similar issues. Not
necessarily only being able to be an effective mentor when working with first generations students,
rather learning new perspectives and understanding different cultural norms that can further assist me
as I continue to develop
