Meaning
 Green HRM is the use of human resource management policies to
promote the sustainable use of resources within business organizations
and more generally, promotes the cause of environmental sustainability.
 GHRM is directly responsible in creating green workforce that
understands, appreciates, and practices green initiative and maintains its
green objectives all throughout the HRM process of recruiting, hiring,
training, compensating, developing, and advancing the firms human
capital

Here are some actions companies can take
to go green:
 Conduct an energy audit
 Go paperless using electronic media, e-mails, what’s app, etc.
 Recycle : papers, bottles, metals, etc.
 Reduce commuting - Encourage carpooling, Providing Shuttles, Encourage
for using Stairs instead of lifts.
 Reduce business travel - Teleconference instead of travelling
 Explore opportunities for implementing alternative energy sources, using
sunlight for lighting the building, solar panels, etc.

 Increase Reputation and Goodwill.
 Cost saving, and directly impact on profit.
 Better utilization of resources.
 Environment friendly.
 Government support.

Disadvantages of Green HRM
 Costly implementation for the alternate sources. i.e. solar
panels are too expensive.
 Need more security for the Data base management and many
back up servers.
 If the server got crashed then the operations will suffer.
 Viruses and Hackers threat.
 Providing training and development to employees for the new
techniques that will cost more, hence the profit will decrease.

 Induslnd Bank – The bank is running ATMs on solar power and has pioneered an
eco-savvy change in the Indian banking sector. IndusInd Bank has been awarded
the NASSCOM IT User Award 2012 for “Environmental Sustainability”
 Tata Metaliks Limited - Every day is Environment Day According to the
company‟s policy, working on Saturdays at the corporate office is discouraged.
Lights are also switched off during the day with the entire office depending on
sunlight.
