Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
The Georgia Institute of Technology - 1991
Professional History
Motiva Enterprises – Norco, LA
AssetDevelopment Engineer – August 2014 to present
 Develop front end of capital projects, including scope, alternatives, and justification. Provide technical
process support to project managers to progress projects through severalgates from development to
execution
 Manage 8 to 10 projects, ranging from $100,000 to $25,000,000
Production Team Support Engineer – March 2012 to August 2014
 Managed implementation of both routine and non-routine plant changes through the MOC process
 Implemented severallarge capital projects, including the installation of new water distribution piping for
the a Flue Gas Scrubber on a FCC, and upgrades to a Soot-blower system for a CO heater
Hexion / Momentive Specialty Chemicals - Norco, LA
Production Engineer - June 2007 to March 2012
 Site lead for project to increase production capacity of specialty epoxy resins unit and the development of
operating strategies to support this expansion.
 Developed scope for capital projects, worked with outside engineering firms to develop cost estimates,
prepared requests for funds, and ensured proper execution for projects up to $4,500,000.
 Responsible for identifying process improvement ideas, defining their financial benefits, and executing
using the DMAIC process.
 Implemented engineering and administrative controls to mitigate a long-standing reactive hazard concern
in the epoxy process.
 Provide technical support on all production and quality issues. Interact with research and development to
make process modifications and conduct plant scale test runs.
 Improved productivity of semi-continuous reactors by reducing controllable losses by 10% and
increasing production rates by average of 5%.
 Improved yield and efficiency of distillation processes, resulting in annual impact of $1,000,000.
MeadWestvaco Corporation Specialty Chemicals - DeRidder, LA
Production Supervisor - January 2005 to June 2007
 Provided leadership in the design and implementation of a new work group to manage daily production,
concentrating on reducing off grade, maximizing production capacity, and increasing process consistency.
 Managed the performance of five direct reports through both bi-annual formal performance appraisals and
regular coaching sessions.
 Successfully managed the recovery and start up of a portion of the production facility after a fire shut the
area down. Took an active role in scheduling and re-arranging the production resources to meet sales
demands during the recovery period. In spite of losing 33% of the production capacity for almost 2
months, the plant was able to exceed the total production of the previous year by 10%.
 Took a lead role in the implementation of Six Sigma in the plant. The use of Six Sigma methodology and
discipline resulted in reduced manufacturing costs and increased on grade percentage. The Six Sigma
efforts yielded an economic impact of about $800,000 to the bottom line.
MeadWestvaco Corporation Specialty Chemicals - Charleston, SC
Process Engineer - February 1998 to January 2005
 Process lead in the integration of a new product line into the asphalt emulsifier plant. Resolved issues
concerning plant logistics, material handling, equipment installation, and training of production personnel
within a very limited time frame. The end result was a seamless start up of production, with no quality
issues, and no customer delays.
 Reduced cycle times of the asphalt emulsifier product line by an average of 15% by implementing
innovative process control strategies. This also resulted in a reduction in process variability, which
yielded more consistent product quality.
 Wrote the PSI manual and the various operating procedures for the ammonium hydroxide and the
methanol covered processes. As the owner of these PSM / RPM processes,I managed the completion of
numerous changes through the MOC / PSSR process and participated in HAZOPS and Hazard Reviews.
MeadWestvaco Corporation Kraft Paper Mill - Charleston, SC
Process Engineer - April 1995 to February 1998 (Kraft - Pulp Mill)
 Successfully managed the implementation of a capital projects to install a new charging system for 9
batch digesters. Managed all aspect of pulp production around this project and minimized disruptions to
the plant.
 Managed the daily operations of the pulp production facility, with emphasis on safety, environmental
stewardship, and quality. Interacted daily with the operations group to optimize the process and with the
maintenance group to take care of both routine maintenance and long term outage planning.
Technical Service Engineer - June 1992 to April 1995
 Responsible for providing technical support to operations, maintenance, and engineering. Completed
numerous projects in the paper machines, pulp mill, evaporators, recovery boilers, power house, and the
waste treatment plant.
