REVIEW
GSM is a next generation beacon platform which is an evolution of location
based services (LBS) from a team that figured it was about time for your
smartphone to become smart. The idea is simple: Have it do things for you,
instead of you telling it what to do. We built an engine for it to have
automated control over things in your digital life. Then we made it open so
you could tweak and customize it to your liking. To make it yours. The
possibilities of proximity and digital automation are truly coming to life with
GSM’s technology.
GSM is more than pop-up notifications like iBeacon. We enable sophisticated
scripting in the device or on the cloud from any beaconing radio wave a
device can receive.
We capture the ID of these radio waves, then build a framework for
automated experiences around them. The Movie Minority report attempted
to show this type of interaction with eyeball recognition, but that was a bit
creepy and too marketing focused. We are building a "cookie for the real
world” with a focus on utility vs. advertising.
PROXIMITY PLATFORM SDK OVERVIEW
This software developer kit enables applications on any mobile device or
computer to communicate peer-to-peer over Bluetooth Smart (4.x) without
any networks present.
Network discovery technologies like Bonjour, UPNP, DLNA and Alljoyn require
devices to be connected to WiFi networks in order to discover and
communicate with one another. Asking a user to leave an application, go into
their device settings, find and select the correct WiFi network, then enter a
password or login to a captive portal is a burden non-technical users avoid.
Discovery via WiFi & GPS lack precision indoors.
The GSM SDK was born from the need for ambient on-demand connectivity
at an application level, leaving the user free from the burden of configuring
connectivity. It works while outside of LTE coverage areas, or with network
congestion and eliminates cloud-syncing delays from two devices attempting
to push/pull from a database.
THE GSM SDK PROVIDES:
ü  Peer-to-peer messaging between devices running your application
ü  Software as a Service licensed solution
ü  Low power operation for client devices (those not continuously beaconing)
ü  Enables apps to communicate over BLE without a network present
ü  Unique key so only peer-apps can discover and communicate with one another
ü  Cross compatible SDK 5-Android, iOS, OSX and Windows
ü  iOS only SDK 6 and Pi3 can send up to 15K bytes within a SSL wrapper
ü  Can wake up periodically for scanning and messaging peers (iOS)
ü  Can act as a software iBeacon host (iOS and Raspberry Pi 3 only)
ü  Can wake up an application from the background when closed (iOS only)
ü  Persistent scanning as a service (Android, Raspberry Pi and Windows)
ü  Proximity Server enhanced discovery – enables discovery of peers in noisy environments or
even when devices are beyond typical max range of BLE
ü  Protected by six patents on automation of actions based upon radio waves
