- 2. Let's start avirtual tour through Forchheim and its surroundings. That‘s where our school is, named after Johann Gottfried Herder. There are a lot of interesting things to see! Welcome to Germany!

- 4. school starts at8:10 a.m. (Far too early!) it usually ends at 1:10 p.m – or lunch break begins… lessons usually last 45 minutes, often also 90 there is a 15 minutes break after two lessons there are lessons in the afternoons, but not every day our school also offers lots of extracurricular activities in the afternoon like sports, drama, different music ensembles and choirs, photography and many many more 1.1 Every day school life

- 9. We are aschool without racism – a school with courage. This project for pupils and from pupils takes action against discrimination and racism actively. We want to live in a non-violent and democratic society. - 11. There are manycafés and restaurants in the pedestrian zone of Forchheim to relax and enjoy the day. Another thing to notice straight away: A small stream running in the middle of the street– we call it „Bächla“ 2.1 Good old “Bächla“
- 12. The river “Wiesent“runs right next to this well known restaurant. You can enjoy real Frankonian dishes there. 2.2 The house leaning to the left
- 13. The “Paradeplatz“ isan important square for various events - Historic Town Centre Festival, a weekly market, central bus station ... The houses along the “Paradeplatz“ were built in different periods, some dating back to the early 17th century 2.4 “Paradeplatz“

- 15. The “Kaiserpfalz“ isthe landmark of Forchheim. It once was the prince-bishop's residence. Today ist a museum and - widely known. 2.6 “Kaiserpfalz“

- 18. During the Christmasseason our town hall turns into a beautiful calendar. From December 1, the Forchheim Christmas angel appears daily at 6.30 pm to open another window. There is a prize to be won behind each window. The lucky winner needs to have the right Christmas lottery ticket. 3.1 Christmas in Forchheim
- 19. End of July,the „Kellerwald“ - a number of lovely beer gardens in the shady woods – is visited by several thousand people. The Annafest has been celebrated here since 1840 and is one of the most charming folk festivals in Franconia. Visitors can enjoy good food, tasty beer, a Ferris wheel along with all the fun fair things, but also Franconian brass music live and loud 3.2 “Annafest“
- 20. There is anArts and Crafts Fair every year around the historical „Kaiserpfalz“ building. You‘ll find quite unusual pottery, iron or glass sculptures, gorgeous leather crafts, all sorts of works of art, unique design for both clothes and bags, jewelry, wind chimes and many many more. 3.3 Arts and Crafts Fair
- 21. The Historic TownCentre Festival takes place in late June. The programme includes performances of a great variety of live music bands inside and outside certain sights.The Triathlon on Saturday is the sporting highlight of the festival. 3.4 Altstadtfest
- 22. The area aroundForchheim is famous for “Schäufele“ (a very delicious piece of roast pork still with the bone), potato dumplings, sausages and beer, but you can also eat local fish like carp or trout. 3.5 Special dishes

- 27. The Jura limestomerocks once formed the bottom of the sea. Nowadays people do climbing there. Small mountain called Walberla
- 28. 5. Surroundings andgeography
- 29. The Walberla is a most remarkable mountain in the area. From the summit you get a wonderful views over the fields and villages around. It is one of the most important landmarks in the region with an elevation of 514 metres. 5.1 Walberla
- 30. The area isvery popular for hiking and trekking. You can find lots of rare plants there, that is why the mountain was declared a nature reserve. A chapel can be found on the top, dedicated to Saint Walburga. Each first weekend in May a huge fair – the Walberla Fest - takes place on the mountain in order to honour the saint.
- 31. The fair takesplace on the first weekend in May. Visitors from far and near come in order to have fun, drink beer, enjoy the traditonal music and the great spring atmosphere. They put up lots of stalls and even a merry-go-round up there. For many visitors the Walberla Fest is a yearly tradition. 5.2 The Walberla fair
- 32. The “Teufelshöhle“ is a stalactite cave in Upper Franconia in the Franconian Switzerland . It‘s one of the biggest and most beautiful caves in the region to be visited. The cave has a total length of 3000 metres, but the guided tour covers only 800 metres. 5.3 “Devil‘s cave“- Teufelshöhle
- 33. The entrance tothe cave is one of the biggest in Germany, 25 metres wide and 14 metres high! In the cave you can see and touch quite a number of huge stalagmites and stalactites. Each year more than 162.800 people come to visit the cave.
