History of Department of AIHC and Archaeology_BHU
This presentation was first delivered in the year 2024 to the newly admitted students of the Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture & Archaeology, Banaras Hindu University. It was presented again on 15th October 2025, on the occasion of the Centenary Celebration (2025–26), in the esteemed presence of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, the Head of the Department, Prof. M. P. Ahirwar, and several distinguished retired professors of the department, including Prof. H. C. Bhardwaj, Prof. Vidula Jayaswal, and Prof. P. N. Singh, among others. This brief historical overview does not claim to present the complete departmental history; rather, it traces its early evolution and formative developments, particularly from its inception up to the significant academic and institutional contributions made during the tenure of Prof. A. K. Narain.
