Hospitals:-
The word hospital is derived from Latin word
"hospice" meaning 'host' or hospital is
considered as an organization where a guest
receives care.
WHO definition:-
Hospital is defined as an integral part of social and
medical organization, the function of which is to
provide for the population complete healthcare, both
curative and preventive, and whose outpatient
services reach out the family in its home environment;
the hospital is also a centre for training of health
workers and for biosocial research.

the early and prompt diagnosis of illness.

individual or group of individuals who are generally
self-funded and run for commercial functions.
Charitable hospital:
Established under society registration act and run for
service motive.
It is funded by donation, grant and aid from
philanthropic organizations.
(Phylanthrophy:-The desire to promote the welfare of others, expressed especially by the
generous donation of money to good causes)
Cooperative hospital:-
These type of hospitals are established by registered
companies and generally run for commercial
purpose.

Long-term hospitals:-
These type of hospitals provide care to people who
require long-term services for chronic diseases like

These type of hospitals provide care only during the
daytime.
Patients are admitted, procedures are performed and
the patients are discharged on the same day.
