When creating our work we realised the importance of using symbiotic links across
all media texts, the two most obvious were the use of skateboarding and star image
which are all portrayed heavily between at least two of the ancillary texts.
I think that throughout this music video and ancillary texts project we have combined
all of our work together to represent continuity of themes and styles across all of our
pieces of work that have complimented each other successfully to appeal directly to
our target audiences.
In order to do this we handpicked some of the most important aspects of our work
that would appeal to the genre stereotypes and paradigms. These include:
 Urban Environment
 Star Image
 Street style clothing
 Skating tricks
 Non Violence (subverts from some stereotypes of this genre)
These features can be seen across all 3 of our ancillary texts as these are all
represented across the poster, Digipack and the video itself with the exception of
skating tricks that do not feature in the poster but do inside the Digipack and video.
 From even the establishing shot of the music video direct links can be made to the other
ancillary texts as graffiti can be seen in the skate park which also appears in our 4 panel
Digipack to help represent the urban environment that is stereotypically associated with
rap and hip-hop genres, therefore the combination is effective from the very start which
will make it appeal more to our target audience due to vital secondary links that out
made from the onset of our video and the two ancillary texts to allow possible
consumers to make the connection between our media products, again highlighting that
our work coincides to create an effective combination.
 Further links are made during the music video that directly relate to either the poster
and/or Digipack, for example we turned the characters that feature across our media
products into commodities to give the artist a specific image in the eyes of the media
and the consumers of the music itself and the ancillary texts, we have achieved this by
using specific mise-en-scene, lighting, locations and post-production effects. The
reason that this is an effective combination is that it appeals directly to consumers who
can then purchase either the bands merchandise or similar skate/street clothing so that
they can classify themselves into a set audience/group in order to make them feel like
they are part of a community which was one of a main features that we wanted to try
and portray in the music video as this culture is all about being together and just having
a good time.
 After looking at the final Digipack and poster design, it is easy to tell that there are
direct links which combine this ancillary text to the two others (music video and
promotional poster) effectively whilst maintaining an aesthetically pleasing album
Digipack and poster, one of the key strengths about our Digipack and poster is the
continuous theme throughout the interior and exterior panels that also relate to key
aspects that also feature in the video and the poster. For example the red colour theme
is also created in the poster with the colour of the text and a similar image using the
same urban location and clothing again makes this part of an effective combination. On
the inside panels of the digipack it mainly focuses on the secondary layer of the music
video (Skateboarding) with a picture on one panel that has also been incorporated onto
the CD shaped as a skateboard wheel which also captivates the commodities we have
included throughout the video.
 When creating our work we realised the importance of using symbiotic links across all
media texts, the two most obvious were the use of skateboarding and star image which
are all portrayed heavily between at least two of the ancillary texts.
 In the modernised music industry, successful artists tend to have a larger set of linked products and
media texts by using symbiotic marketing as it is becoming more accessible within the media, this
enables artists such as Lupe Fiasco to create his own identity and create his own identity which then
allows the consumers of this product to relate and produce a trademark for the artist. This concept is
ever-growing in the current music industry as the more successful the media products are, the more
successful the artist will be as a result, this relates to the 3 main ancillary texts we have produced as
they are all in a way advertisements for the music which help engage the audience and makes the more
likely to purchase the music and/or merchandise as they can relate more personally to the artist. This
has led to more and more bands and artists producing more diverse and immersive media products.
 Overall the combination of the main media product (The music video) and the two ancillary texts (The
Digipack and the poster) have worked effectively together to exceed our expectations. I believe this
has been successful as our music video had direct and obvious links with the other ancillary texts, of
which we had plenty of time to plan these continuous themes thoroughly which enabled us to come up
with various ideas and select the best ideas, a prime example of this is the inclusion of the skateboard
wheel on the inside of the Digipack where the CD would normally go, by doing this we managed to
combine the same ideas throughout al of our media products therefore making it effective as our
audience could recognise the direct links between them immediately.
 The recurring theme throughout these three media texts of skating and star image gave the video
repeatability and also allowed consumers to relate to the mannerisms of the star performer allowing
them to feel more interactive with the artist through the fashion and gang culture within the urban
environments portrayed throughout our work. As a result of star image being used in our music video,
poster and Digipack it can idolise the character and allows his look to act as a logo for the whole
project.
 Overall this has been successful as consumers can now relate directly to the artists due to the style
portrayed in the video and has given us an effective combination throughout all of these media texts.
