What Is An Epitaph   An epitaph poem is a short, memorable poem written on a deceased person's tombstone. A good epitaph poem sums up an important message about the person's life, or a core aspect of their personality (Lee, 1).
Steps To Writing An EpitaphStep 1Research epitaph poems to see how they are writtenVisit a local cemetery and look on the tombstonesUse resources such as the Bible and poetry books
Step 2Write down things about the person’s life and personalityUse things such as:QuotesFunny storiesTheir history
Step 3Write down important roles this person held. Such as mother, father, aunt or military personnel.Write down ways that this person impacted lives through work or in everyday life.Example: To know even one life breathed easierbecause she lived is to know shetruly succeeded while here.
Step 4Decide what qualities or accomplishments you want to focus on.Example: His true wealth was in his generous                      heart. And what endless wealth he                     did have. Once you have narrowed it down, pick a main theme that you want the epitaph to follow
Step 5Create the poemMost epitaphs are short and memorableRemember they must fit on a tombstoneThey do not have rhyme, but they should flow
Step 6Put the epitaph away for a day and then take it out later to editHave relatives and close friends read it for advice to improve itMake necessary changes until you are satisfied                                                                      (Lee, 1)
