In crime thriller there are props used to show different actions and effects within a film. This is the normal
stereotype that is used in this sub genre of films.
Gun – These will be used to show conflict and also identify to the audience who the aggressor is to the
audience. A main example of a weapon that is used can be a pistol (gun). They can be used by murders,
police and other characters that might feature. An example of this in a film is The Dark Knight Rises where the
police in the film uses a gun to try and control the situation and defeat the villain.
Knife – This prop can be used by either the suspect or the murder of the film. However this prop allows for
different camera angles to be used within the film to create and build tension. The camera angles that can be
used close up to show the impact of the knife affecting the victim. An example of this in a film is John Wick:
Chapter 2 which shows a knife scene within the film to show the kind of violence that happens between the
characters.
Other props that can be used but in a smaller capacity are like ID Badges or passports like for example police
and if someone is trying to escape the country. This has been used in The Dark Knight where the police
identified themselves to the public when in distress.
