Where Iroquois lived The great  Iroquois lived From Eastern New York to northeast Ohio, Southern Ontario to Pennsylvania and some settled in Canada.
 
Iroquois Environment  They have forest, hills, streams, and rivers. They have snowy winters, hot summers, cool falls, nice springs.
Natural resources Corn Wood Water Fruit animals (such as deer) Elm bark Strawberries Nuts Beans Squash fish
Iroquois Clothing Iroquois clothing was handmade. Deer skins had to be tanned, cut, and sewn together.  Iroquois woman wore  skirts that came down to their ankles.  All clothing was decorated with porcupine quills dyed red, yellow and blue.  Woman & men wore vests or blouses. Men wore kilt-like skirts  to their knees over leggings.  All Iroquois  wore strong moccasins made from one piece of deer skin and decorated with special designs.  Moccasins were sewn together by a deer bone needle using sinew from the deer for string. The Iroquois never left any of the deer.  For example, they  mushed up the brains, put moss into it and  made a cake. It could last for years.
Housing The Iroquois had longhouses as their homes. Longhouse were made out of wood that was curved liked “Y”s that had bark on the sides and the roof to keep them safe them from the rain.  Longhouses where15-20 high and 50-150ft long depending on how many families they had.  They even had compartments to put their clothes and tools. The Iroquois built stockades around their village to protect them for the colonists and other tribes.
Ways the Iroquois used corn The Iroquois used corn in many ways.  Dried kernels were made for beads and decorating.  Corn husks were used to make  mats, moccasins, kindling, baskets, medicine masks, and dolls.  Corn stalks were used as tubes for medicine.  Green corn leaves were used as bandages.
Iroquois Fun Facts They learned by watching the grownups work instead of  going to school. They love sports and games. Lacrosse is one of them. They have  a origin story much like our story Garden of Eden*.
