The objective is for the competitors to carry the weight through a special
obstacle track in the fastest time. The sport was first introduced at

the shoulder), or Estonian-style (the weight hangs upside-down gripping
the runner's waist).

• "X" comes from a Greek word , a measure of length
equalling approximately 200 metres. The oldest known
X is the one in Olympia, in the western
Peloponnese, Greece, where the Olympic Games of
antiquity were held since 776 BC.
• Initially 'the Games' consisted of a single event, a
sprint along the length of the X. Therefore the length of
Olympia's X became somewhat of a standard measure
