3. Noise pollution
• Noise is unwanted sound and noise
pollution is unwanted or offensive
sound that unreasonably introduce
into our daily activity.
• It has main sources , most of which are
associated with urban development;
road, air and rail transport. And, by
industrial noise and recreational noise.
5. Impact on human health
High exposure to noise
causes physical damages to
eardrum. And sensitive hair
cells of inner ear and result
temporary or permanent
hear loss.
Excessive noisy exposure
can raise blood pressure
and pulse rate, causes
irritability, anxiety and
mental fatigue.
Effect cardiovascular
system, metabolic system,
as well as cognitive
impairment of children.
12,500 children suffer
reading impairment in
school.
According to WHO noise is
second largest
environmental cause of
health problem
6. Hearing
problem
•1.Loud noise causes hearing impairment
which result permanent hear loss
• 2.Tinnitus
• It is defined as the sensation of
sound In the absence of an
external sound source.
• In some people tinnitus can cause
sleep disturbance, cognitive
effects, anxiety, psychological
distress, depression,
communication problem,
frustration, irritability, inability to
work , low participation in social
work.
• 3.difficulty in sleeping
• Having noise around can destroy
peaceful sleep as it cause stress.
• Which interrupt the normal
functioning of body. leading to
discomfort , fatigue.
7. 4.Reduce cognitive functioning
• Ear is connected with brain, which coordinate the body’s stimulus
and response.
• Too much noise get to the brain, and which causes lower response of
brain .
• People living in adjacent to railway line, airport, loud night club have
lower cognitive power
• 5. Cardiovascular problem
• Noise excite the heart , too much noise means heartbeat faster, their
by increase blood pressure.
• In loud noise, stress hormone such as adrenalin are also released.
• So, blood pressure increase in noise environment.
• It has chance for heart related disease such as high pressure and
stress.
8. • 6. Reproduction problem
• Pregnant women exposed to
noise pollution, the children will
less body weight to be born.
• 7. Trouble in communication
• High decibel noise can create
inconvenience and may not allow
two people to communicate
clearly.
• This may lead to
misunderstanding
• It disturb the emotional balance.
9. MENTAL HEALTH:
Unwanted sound can cause mental health effect.
Frequent or loud noise can trigger anxiety or stress.
People live with noise pollution may feel irritable ,
frustrated, or angry.
Environmental noise is also a common course of sleeping
disturbance such as, reduce the depth and quality of
sleep, altering the amount of rapid eye movement
Also impact the persons mood and ability to concentrate
10. Physical health
•
Loud sound can directly cause
hearing impairment.
•
Cause abnormal loudness
perception.
•
Tinnitus , which cause a persistent
high-pitched ringing in the ear.
•
effect hearing ability.
•
Temporarily raise blood pressure.
And increase blood viscosity.
•
Causes cardiovascular disease.
•
Preeclampsia , a condition that
cause high blood pressure during
pregnancy.
12. Impact for
children
Permanent hearing changes including the inability to hear certain
frequency.
Difficulty in concentration.
Difficulty in communication and speech development.
Difficulty in cognitive performance.
Effect the child behavior.
Effect the ability to form relationship and their confidence.
13. Effect on wildlife
•Animal suffer hearing loss
which make them easy prey.
•Disturbing the balance of
ecosystem.
•Effect species depending on
mating call.
•Effect on animal behavior.
•Difficulty for animals to use
sound for navigation, finding
food, avoiding predators etc.
•Effect food habitat.
14. Effect of noise
pollution in animal
Reduction in feeding
pattern
Some birds and animal like bat,
whales, and dolphins use their
sharp hearing ability –
Echolocation for movement and
also foraging and avoiding prey.
Noise pollution is negatively
effect this.
As the result migration birds and
animals from their natural habitat
in search of quieter places where
they can feed comfortably.
Some animal species slowly
extinct by this. They migrate to
other ecosystem
15. Hearing problem
•Dolphins and whales
are frequent visitors to
the shallow water of
large ocean.
•But because of
continuous loud noise
caused by drilling
machine in the ocean,
some animals hearing
capabilities have been
severely impact.
•Some have
permanent hearing
loss
16. Reproduction
problem
• Animal use unique voices to know
the location of male and stay away
from the danger.
• Birds also use low pitch sound to
attract male. Some has low sound,
that only audible to some animal.
• If the environment is noisy , they
get difficult to mate and breed.
•
• With out breeding it means no
offspring.
17. Death
• Bigger animals can survive in noise
areas
• But in case of smaller marine
animals such as cephalopod,
heavily affected by noise coming
from moving vessels.
• The slow movement of large ship
over areas where they all habitat
can lead to death
• It causes reduction in production.
• Noise reduce productivity of both
wild and domesticated animals.
• Cow produce less milk if there is
any noise around them during milk
production.
18. Now…
•According to a 2015 report commissioned by the
European Commission on the impact of noise on health, it
is estimated that that 1.3 billion people worldwide suffer
from hearing impairment due to noise exposure.
•World Health Organization (WHO) estimates 10% of the
global population is currently exposed to noise levels that
could lead to hearing impairment.
•The same body recommends that unprotected exposure
to sound levels greater than 100 dB should be limited in
duration of four hours and frequency of four times a year.
•Additionally, it should never exceed 140 dB in adults and
120 dB in children.
