  What is computer? Computeris programmable machine which can convert input into output after processing data. Since a sequence of operations can be readily changed, the computer can solve more than one kind of problem. There are three basic parts of computer which perform specific task. Control Unit: This part of computer integrate with all other parts and control all the activities of computer system. Arithmetic Logic Unit: This unit of computer performs the functions related to mathematics. Memory Unit: This part of computer performs function of storing data. 3

  Using Handheld Computersin Field operations Handheld computers are being used to improve efficiency in oil industry field operations. Field data is recorded electronically with the handheld unit rather than being written on a paper report. After the data is collected, it is uploaded into a PC database in the field office where timely reports and data analysis are produced that support the decision-making process in the field. Handheld computers play a critical role in making these efficiency improvements possible. 5

  Software applications Nowadays Petroleumindustry relies on many softwares and these softwares can only be operated via computers. In most oil companies worldwide the petroleum engineering broadly concentrates on maximizing cost-effective production from the field. A number of core software programs are part of its daily routine to assess this effectiveness and efficiency of oil and gas production. 6

  Petroleum engineering softwares Petrel:This is software that provides an integrated solution from exploration to production. It allows user to interpret seismic data, perform well correlation, build reservoir models and visualize simulation results. Prosper: This software can assist the production or reservoir engineer to predict tubing and pipeline hydraulics and temperatures with accuracy and speed. Eclipse: This software is produced by Schlumberger and models the movement of fluids in the oil or gas reservoir and works out what percentage of the hydrocarbons could economically be produced. 7
