The study evaluates the effect of corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) on cytokine and metalloproteinase levels in the tear film of keratoconus (KC) patients. Results indicate that CXL significantly reduces IL-1β levels while increasing IL-6 and MMP-2 levels after six weeks, highlighting the role of inflammation in KC progression. The findings suggest the potential for using cytokine levels as prognostic factors for KC progression.
