INITIAL PLANS
S i m r a n J a b b a l
When I went through the brief, I was a little anxious about what to do. We
looked at different short films by David Sandburg. This helped as it gave me
some ideas on what to do. We watched various genres of short films. This
gave me an insight into different films.
However, I think I’m better than filming than I am at editing. When we were
making our experiments, everyone else wasn’t too sure so they asked me
about how to film and where to stand or what position the people should be in.
But when it comes to editing, I know how to cut down strips of the clip and put
it together but if it makes sense, I don’t know.
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected?
(repeated colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood)
From the mood board, there are lots of different colours that appear. I have picked many
images to go with the three ideas on my mind map. However, the main idea is the murder
story. There is a clear repetition in the colours as the images are all linked. Some of the
colours that pop out are black, greys, red, white etc. These colours are used for the genre of
my idea which is mystery fiction. The colour black connotes to death and evil. As my idea is a
murder mystery, this links in with the colour black. In some short films, you get blackouts. First
of all, it shows the suspense of you don’t know what’s going to happen and second, it’s
effective. The colour grey can be associated with loss or even depression. Lastly, red
connotes to danger, blood or fire. These colours all link in with the murder mystery as it will
keep the film in suspense and keep the tension throughout the whole short film.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
Some of the colours that were used in the images I have gathered has influenced me to use
them in my own short film. This will keep my audience for my film in mystery of what is going
to happen next.
