Introduction to UI/UX
(By Jared Otieno)
What is UI/UX design?
- The user interface is the graphical layout of an application. It consists of the
buttons users click on, the text they read, the images, sliders, text entry fields,
and all the rest of the items the user interacts with. This includes screen
layout, transitions, interface animations and every single micro-interaction.
- “UX” stands for “user experience.” A user’s experience of the app is
determined by how they interact with it. Is the experience smooth and intuitive
or clunky and confusing? Does navigating the app feel logical or does it feel
arbitrary? Does interacting with the app give people the sense that they’re
efficiently accomplishing the tasks they set out to achieve or does it feel like a
struggle? User experience is determined by how easy or difficult it is to
interact with the user interface elements that the UI designers have created.
Advantages UI/UX
• Increase customer acquisition and loyalty
• Maximize revenue generation opportunities
• Optimize resources, development time and costs
• Get more insights from user engagement
• Reduce troubleshooting and associated costs
Importance of UI/UX design
The primary goal of any business is to increase its sales
and increase the growth of the business. UX/UI Design
plays an essential role in achieving this goal. The UX/UI
Design of the application improves the user experience
and customer satisfaction that ultimately helps increase
the number of users of the specific application.
Getting started UI/UX
- UX and UI design tools are evolving fast. From doing early whiteboard exercises to working on the finished
product, each stage of the design and product development process is now helped by a whole range of tools.
- Some of the most and highly used tools are:-
 Maze: Remote testing for agile teams
 Sketch: The digital design platform
 Adobe XD: The UI/UX design solution for websites, apps, and more
 Balsamiq: The rapid, effective, and fun wireframing software
 Figma: The collaborative interface design tool
 InVision: Digital product design, workflow, and collaboration
 Marvel: The design platform for digital products
 And many more......
But in our class we will be using Figma, because of it’s simplicity.
