1. Early life
•   Born in Guipúzcoa (1476)
•   A huge experience as a sailor
•   He took part of a military expedition (1509)
•   Stablished in Seville
•   Joined the Magellan expedition (1519)
2. Magellan expedition
•   Naval commander, 5 ships with a fleet of 241 men from Spain
•   Dissatisfaction and severe weather
•   1521, conflicts with the nearby island of Rota
•    April 1521, Magellan was killed in Filipinas
•   Elcano leader of ship Victoria
•   Arrived Molucas islands, began the return to Spain.
3.Loaise expedition

• The García Jofre de Loaísa was a maritime spanish expedition (1525-
    1536) In this expedition Elcano died by scurvy.
• It objetive was colonize the Moluccas isles, in Indonesia.
• The expedition was formed by seven ships and 450 men. Only 24 of them
    survived.
• Three ships sunk before cross the streigh of
Magellan, and only one arrived to the Moluccas
Isles at last.
4. Honors
• The king Charles the First gave to him 500 gold ducats and a shield
  where we can read: “The first person who rounded me”, in latin.
• The Spanish Army has his name in it, as recognition.
