INTRODUCTION
BEARINGS:-
Bearings are machine elements
which are used to support a rotating
member called as shaft.
They transmit the load from a
rotating member to a stationary
member known as frame or housing Rolling Contact Bearing
TYPES OF BEARING
Bearing
Sliding contact

Partial

Sliding Contact Bearing:-
 The sliding take place along the surface of
contact b/w the moving element and fixed
element.
It is also known as plain bearings.
In which the sliding action is guided in
straight line & carrying radial load .
Fixed element
Moving element
1) Full journal bearing:-
2) Partial journal bearing:-
3) Fitted journal bearing:-
Advantages:-
1. Higher load carrying capacity.
2. Easy replacement.
3. Infinite life.
Disadvantages:-
1. In some cases you to have a dedicated
lubricating system.
2. More expensive.
Rolling Contact Bearing:-
Load is transferred through rolling
elements such as balls, straight and
tapered cylinders and spherical rollers.
Due to low rolling friction
these bearings are aptly
called “antifriction” bearing.
Types of Rolling Contact bearing:-
1)Ball bearing 2)Rolled bearing 3)Thrust ball bearing
Advantages:-
 The rolling bearings have a lower frictional resistance
than plain bearings.
 The Lubrication of rolling bearings is easier because they
can be "grease packed‘.
 A greater choice of roller bearing designs are available
than for plain bearings.
Disadvantages:-
 It takes up more space than plain bearings.
 The rolling bearings are not as rigid as plain bearings.
 More nosier in operation than plain bearings.
 High cost.
