Kelly Sloly,
Kingston Branch
Consultant
How did you start
your career in recruitment?
After four years of being a chef I decided
I wanted to move in to an office based
role. After registering with an agency they
told me about the benefits of a career in
recruitment, and I was really interested!
I’ve now been in recruitment for 9 years
and never looked back. It has its challen-
ges, but the rewards and the people you
work with are definitely worth it!
What has been your biggest challenge
in your career?
I think finding the right company. Finding
one that offers excellent training,
progression and recognition has been
a challenge, but I have certainly found
this this at Kelly Services. There are little
challenges every day in recruitment,
but having the right backing and support
means you can overcome these much
easier.
What are you passionate about outside of work?
I go to a fitness bootcamp twice a week. I enjoy this as it teaches me to be focussed
which is important to me not only in my personal life, but also in my job. I feel it helps
me deal with the stress of the week and leaves me feeling energised.
What have been the highlights?
Proving not only to myself but the people I work for that I can build successful relation-
ships with my clients. I have clients working with me now that I first approached in my first
year in recruitment. It’s comforting to know that the hard work and effort I put into making
my clients happy has resulted in long-term partnerships. I make a difference to my clients
businesses by ensuring I provide them with the best staff and as a nice added extra get a
bonus for doing so!
What tips can you give other people starting a career in recruitment?
Tell us something unusual about you
My aunty used to date
Kenny Baker who played
R2D2 in Star Wars!
How do you stay positive,
even through the difficult times
as a recruitment consultant?
Positive mental attitude! By being
confident in my own ability and the
service I provide. I also know that a bad
day is just a day, and if I put the hard work
in and think positively, a bad day can turn
in to a good week quickly.
This is My Story
Relationships are
important. Learn
to build long term
partnerships, not just
chasing one off
placements.
Plan your day
with military
precision!
Be focussed
and know what
you are looking
to achieve
Remember you
can’t make a place-
ment without your
candidate. Treat them
as you would like
to be treated.
Work well
with your team,
you need
each other!
Who Inspired you to be
who you are today?
I’m a big fan of Alan Sugar. I have read all
of his books and watched all of the pro-
grammes based on his life about how he got
to where he is today. I admire the fact that he
came from a modest background but he had
an idea and a vision which he worked hard
to achieve. Through determination he has
become a huge success and I try to imitate
his values in my day to day work.
Favourite subject in school?
I had two, geography and English. I
loved learning about different countries
and their cultures. I find this interesting
and really helpful in my role as a recruit-
ment consultant as I talk to so many dif-
ferent kinds of people each day that it
helps to understand their backgrounds.
I’m now looking to learn Afrikaans as
the language fascinates me and I love
the culture in South Africa.
