This document discusses categories of insect pests based on occurrence, level of infestation, and population/damaging capacity. It defines regular, occasional, seasonal, persistent, sporadic, cyclic, endemic, and epidemic pests based on patterns of occurrence on crops. Major pests are those whose general equilibrium population is close to or at the economic injury level, requiring timely interventions to prevent economic damage. Minor pests have populations below the economic injury level except under favorable conditions. Potential pests currently have populations below damage levels but could become more serious under changed conditions.
