  Lucy Rose –Middle of the Bed Genre – folk, singer/songwriter Years Active – 2009 Instruments – vocals, guitar, piano, keyboard, percussions Label – Columbian Records Introduction This music video is very similar to the genre we want to portray showing innocence and purity aesthetically and also the surroundings being natural. I would say that Lucy Rose’s music appeals to mostly the female population aged 16 onwards due to its relaxed tempo and soft sounds as I think younger females tend to follow the charts and ‘big’ stars as opposed to finding their own genre. Camera Shots and Angles Performance Shots – This shows the whole band as intimate and close and that they are family like which is a good thing to show as it also makes the audience feel as though they can relate to her more as she is in her comfort zone and in a familiar, ‘normal’ place. This is a common shot in music videos and one we are defiantly going to use. Close up – This allows the artists to show the audience her emotions and feelings making the song more effective when the audience watch and listen as she has a connection with it, it means something to her and when she shows her emotions the audience can relate to these feelings again showing this idea of her being just like everyone else. It is also an intimate shot which helps with the link between the audience and the artist as fans like to feel as though they know her and as she sings into the camera it is as though she is singing to them.

  Low angle –As the camera (audience) looks up to her this helps appeal to the younger girls as this angle implies that she is a role model, someone to look up to and aspire to be like. Mid shots – there a lot of these throughout the video as it allow us to see what is going on as we see her during her everyday life again allowing the audience to connect and relate to the artist and this is something we defiantly want to portray as this is very important in our genre. Editing The only editing in this music video that I can acknowledge is the cuts to the beat which is a must in any music video to make sure it flows and as it’s a slower beat so are the cuts meaning we will have to take longer takes in order for this to work and look professional. Mise en Scene The mise en scene is all very minimalistic and has a ‘home grown’ effect as the locations are everyday places allowing the audience to be able to connect and relate to these places as they are familiar and as she is shown having fun in these places makes them attractive but also shows reality as this is where she chills, she is being shown in these places being herself.

  Here costume isvery relaxed and her own style, very minimalistic like the locations just like her make up and hair too. She is not shown to be this glamorous untouchable star she is portrayed as this down to earth girl who is purely focused on her music making her even more appealing to her audience and fans as she is shown to be just like them. Representations There is a constant representation of purity and innocence as she wears little make up, pastel coloured clothes and is surrounded by natural pretty scenery all of which add to the representation of her being innocent and real (not untouchable). There are also representations of her personality as we see her fooling around with her friends filmed like a ‘home grown’ film as the camera is shakey and the shots are almost like behind the scenes – behind and into her personal life.
