❑ A drama mainly sung and accompanied by
instruments.
❑ Includes varied forms of overture, solo songs,
duets, choruses, and other vocal combinations.
❑ Composed of the following;
- Librettist - Composer - Conductor
- Dancers - Soloist - Choristers
- Instrumentalist - Choreographer - Director
Philippine Opera
❑ European opera companies visited the Philippines
during the 1860s and introduced Opera. From there,
the Opera became the main attraction in Manila
during the 19th and 20th centuries.
❑ Many Filipino composers created operas inspired by
the life and works of Jose Rizal: Noli Me Tangere, El
Filibusterismo, and Binhi Ng Kalayaan.
❑ Also, others are inspired by literature such as
Florante and Laura
❑ Opera Presentations were performed inside a
Theater. The venue was crucial to the whole
production. Below were the early venues of opera in
the Philippines.

Padilla de Leon (Music), Guillermo Tolentino (Libretto),
and Lucio San Pedro, Lucio Sacramento, and Felipe Padilla
de Leon (Orchestration).
