How did you attract/address your audience?
My target is aimed at teenagers and young adults between the ages 16-24 who are interested in
indie/rock. In my market research I made a survey for students between the ages of 16-24 to fill out,
in this I asked questions such as what type of magazines they would usually buy and what kind of
information they hope to gain from the magazines. In the results it stated that my demographic
wants a magazine that is out monthly due to the fact they would not be able to afford to buy one
weekly, they also want to have interviews and gig reviews in the magazine. I have tried to aim my
magazine at my target audience through different techniques such as my photography and my
design and layout within the pages and also by using language that is appropriate for this
demographic. My cover girl is 17 meaning that her success at a young age will be appealing for my
target audience and they will want to read about how she gained her success.
In my results from my focus group on Facebook the overall reaction was that they thought my
magazine fit the music genre I was aiming for. One comment said that my masthead was simple
however this was the reason it was effective and eye catching. In my feedback the majority of the
comments said that they thought my double page spread was the most professional looking out of
the 3 pages. A few comments also said that they thought my photography was strong. I looked at
the Gutenberg design principle when designing my magazine so that I knew I was placing my images
and text in an appropriate place to make them as eye catching and professional looking as possible.
