I researched this font as a possibility for my masthead
however it didn’t reflect my music magazine theme
(alternative R&B). The acid dripping font represents
the horror(film) genre rather than my chosen genre. I
had initially thought that I would used this as it was
different from the typical masthead fonts used on real
media texts as my magazine is named ALT ; alternative
(different) which was the idea behind the concept. I
also thought that this font would be attractive to my
target audience as it is quite youthful and my target
audience is for teens to young adults.
I made the choice to go with this font from dafont.com as i
think that it represents my idea of incorporating fashion / art as
well as just having alternative R&B music as a lot of current
music magazines include culture (fashion /art etc.) in their
magazines. The paint texture shows the creativity.
I inserted my chosen font by clicking edit and then paste. I then
pressed Ctrl + T to resize the image to ensure that the image
doesn’t become distorted. I then added blending options to my
fonts :
• Bevel & emboss
• Texture
• Stroke
• Inner shadow
• Inner glow
• Satin
• Outer glow
• Drop shadow
I experimented with a range of blending options to add
dimension and texture to the font to make it less flat and more
two dimensional. It also makes my magazine appear more
legitimate as this is seen in most media text.
I received feedback on my choice of font. My media teacher
said that the font I have chosen was too soft for the rest of my
magazine as I had strong bold fonts on my front cover and the
quality of the font wasn’t good (blurred). So i decided to
change the font. My media also suggested that i changed the
name to EGO however i don’t believe that the name works for
my magazine style. I also removed the full-stops from the
name.
The fonts here didn’t
work for the style of
my magazine as they
were overly simple
or futuristic.
When researching i couldn't find a font that i thought worked
for my magazine. I looked at ID magazine (a real media text)
and I liked the way the font looked and the magazine style is
similar to my magazines style. I researched on dafont.com and
fontspace.com and found a font that worked for my magazine. I
received feedback after changing my font and I the majority
said that they believed that the font worked better for my
magazine. My magazine has block fonts and boxed text so the
font I found compliments the rest of my magazine.
