WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT
DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY?
WHAT DISTRIBUTER?
• For our titles and opening sequence of Deimos we
decided to distribute it through Lionsgate films. As of
November 2013, it is the most commercially successful
mini major film and television distribution company in
North America, it is also the seventh most profitable
movie studio.
REASON FOR CHOSEN DISTRIBUTER
• We decided to distribute our film through a mini major film company as even
though our opening sequence that we filmed didn’t use a big budget if we
were to further the film we would require a large budget in order to fulfil the
exact look of our film as it would need special effects, a wide range of
settings, a large cast and good quality footage. We would also pitch for well
known actors so that our film would achieve wide publication and a global
audience. Therefore we would need Lionsgate to supply us with enough
money and to also draw attention from A-list actors.
SYNERGY/MEDIA CONVERGENCE
• Moreover, we would also use cross media convergence to
further our publication of our media product by collaborating with
a well known artiste to produce the soundtrack for our film. This
would be to attract a large audience, however we would need an
artiste who would be liked by our target audience as otherwise
they may be put off the film. Considering this, we would pitch to
artistes such as, Lorde, Ed Sheeran and Royal Blood.
PRODUCTION
• Our production company, Casper Productions, would be able to develop:
• The plot
• Script
• Director
• Some of the cast and crew.
However because we don’t have enough money we would then pitch to Lionsgate so that they
could fund our project and publicise it to a global audience.
DISTRIBUTION
• We hope that a mini major label such as Lionsgate would be interested in our film as it
conforms to the horror conventions, it includes many special effects and serve a purpose
to entertain. Although the first film wont have a happy ending the film will be followed by a
sequel (as this is a horror convention as seen in films such as Insidious) which will then
result in a happy ending where the evil is taken over by the good.
EXHIBITION
• Our target audience is between 16-25 which would mean that we would desire for our film
to be consumed by cinema chains and then eventually be released on DVD and then to
feature on channels such as Sky TV as these all have large audience, especially of those
in our target audience Odeon.
REGULATION
• Through the BBFC our film would have a rating of 15. This is because it will feature strong
violence, frequent strong language, flashing images and references to sexual content.
• The images would also be frightening for a younger audience, therefore it would not be
suitable for anyone younger than the age of 15.
INSTITUTIONS
So overall the key institutions who would be involved in our film would be:
• Lionsgate Entertainment (films)
• Cineworld cinema
• Odeon Cinema
• Cinemark cinemas (American)
• Universal Music Group
• Warner Music Group
• BBFC
• Sky Movies
• Film 4
