Here are selected responses to the question “What impression do you think our media
center gives to visitors to our building?”
“With so many kids in and out, and activities going on, I think visitors get the
impression that the media center is an important part of our school.”
“I love our media center and think everyone should be given a tour once they get here.
(Our media specialist) Sharon does a wonderful job and (I) think that she has made such
a wonderful change to our school.”
“It’s kind of blah…the low ceilings are horrible.”
“That it is the hub of our school”
“People are impressed with our media center but with a school as big as ours you’d think
it’d be bigger.”
On the whole, survey participants felt that the media center as is gives a positive
impression to visitors.

Below are selected responses to the question “Any other comments about
the media center and it’s layout that you would like to add?”
“Our media specialist does a wonderful job. I enjoy the classes she offers to
my students.”
“I like that the shelves are low and provide a clear view of the entire room.”
“I love how the sections are clear for the students to stay in their ‘area.’ That
way we don’t have little ones taking home books they shouldn’t and vice
versa.”
“(I like) the ceiling tiles and the posters of different books you can read.”
“More technology would be nice and it might be better to have the computers
isolated a little more so that the students are less distracted.”

Narrative Statement
• With the given information from surveys and information gathered
from best practices and physical library surveillance, I believe
improvements can be made in the areas of:
• Seating for pleasure reading
• Storytime and presentation area
• Computers and technology
• Electrical outlets for laptops
• Décor (in regards to clock locations)
• The audio-visual storage room
Revised Layout

Computer Lab
• Due to space and responses from the survey I have decided it would be
best to take the current media lab and put it in the current large group
area.
• Instead of the desktop computers we would trade the laptop computers
that are currently used in the Technology Connections class (about 30
laptop computers). That way if the large area ever needed to be used
with out the computers it would be easily done. The projector, Mimio,
and other technologies are already present in this area.

(anticipation of growth of involvement from community)
• Updated policies for laptops and printers (since those have
been added in the renovation)
• Updated specifics for meeting areas (currently there is not
a set number of days to notify the media center of meeting
area use)
