Mental health is a state of mental well-being that enables people
to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well
and work well, and contribute to their community. (WHO)
What is Mental Health
Problem?
• Affect a person's thinking, mood, and behavior.
• Can affect people of all ages, races, genders, and backgrounds.
• Can be caused by genetics, environment, life experiences, brain
chemistry etc.
• Can significantly impacts a person's daily life, relationships, and overall
well-being.
• Not a weakness or personal failure; seeking help is a sign of self-care.
• It is manageable with combination of lifestyle changes, counseling,
therapy and medication.
1.1 MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEM
We need to break down barriers to seeking help and create a culture of
understanding and acceptance to reduce stigma and discrimination.
• Continuous sadness or hopelessness
• Withdrawal from friends, society and activities previously enjoyed
• Excessive fear or worry or vice-versa
• Changes in appetite or sleep patterns
• Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
• Irritability or anger
• Substance abuse or other risky behaviors
• Feelings of guilt and worthlessness
• Thoughts of self-harm or suicide
• Hallucinations or delusions (in severe cases)
• Extreme mood swings or behavioral changes etc.

experience of stress, we might be at risk of developing

2 STRESS
Stress is a mental state that occurs when the nervous
system is under pressure or strain caused by stressors.
What happens during stress?
• Increases secretion of Adrenaline hormone which causes increased
heart rate, blood pressure, sweating etc.
• All these are helpful in giving our body the extra energy to fight
the situation or take a flight to safety.
• If this extra energy is usable and is used constructively, then
the impact is positive and if not, then the impact is negative.
• Makes you more proactive and productive
