Mesopotamian art developed over several periods, beginning with the Sumer period which featured sculptures and architecture depicting daily life, as well as the earliest writing. The Akkad period was known for black sculptures, while the Assyrian period produced reliefs. The Babylonian period, during which King Hammurabi ruled, featured codes of law and sculptures of winged bulls with human heads.
