This document summarizes plane table surveying methods. It describes how to set up a plane table over a station by fixing it to a tripod stand and leveling it. It also covers marking the north line, orientation, and common plane table surveying methods like radiation, intersection, traversing, and resection. The radiation method requires a single station while intersection uses a minimum of two stations with orientation done via backsight. Traversing connects multiple stations like compass traversing. Resection orients the table by plotting the station occupied on the sheet rather than other stations or details.

PROCEDURE OF SETTINGUP A PLANETABLE OVER A
STATION :
Fixing the table on the tripod stand :
LevellingTheTable :
With the help of spirit level at different corners. The bubble is
brought to the Centre
By adjusting the legs.
Marking the NorthLine :
The trough compass is placed on the right-hand
top corner with its north end approximately
Towards the north .Then the compassis turned
clockwise or anticlockwise so that the needle
Coincides exactly with the 0-0 mark.
6.
Orientation:
During plane tablesurveying the orientation
must be performed at every successive station It
may be done by a magnetic needle or by
backsighting method.The backsighting process
is always Preferred, because it is reliable.
7.
METHODS OF PLANETABLING:
The following are the methods of plane
tabling :
Radiation
Intersection
Traversing
Resection
8.
Radiation Method :
Itrequires the plane table to occupy a single
station.
•Orientation table is not required.
•To conduct the survey of an area , the table
is kept at a Convenient station P
commanding a full view of the area to be
surveyed.
10.
Intersection Method :
•Thismethod requires setting the table up at
minimum
Of two stations.
• Orientation is essential and be can done by
back
Sighting.
•Two station A and B are selected so that they
Command a full view of the area to be surveyed.
12.
Traversing Method :
Thismethod is used to connect the two or
more Stations , however it is similar to the
compass traversing But are done simultaneously.
Traversing is a method of surveying where
by a series Of lines are surveyed
Traverse may be open or closed one.
14.
Re-section Method :
Thisis the method of orienting the table . A
characteristics feature of resection is that The
object is to plot the station occupied by the table
on the sheet rayher than obtaining
The other stations or plotting details .
