Evaluation: Question 2
How effective is the combination of your main product (music video) and ancillary texts
(digipak and advertisement).
Link between our music video and ancillary
work
Within our music we did not create as many
links between the product and our ancillary
work as I would of liked, however this is a good
few.
One would be that the artist in the music video
is wearing blue and sticks to the colour palate of
the ancillary work that is black, white and blue.
Aside from that another one would be that we
kept showing the artist in the music video using
mid and close up shots. To go with this we made
sure to use a picture of our artist on the front
cover f the ancillary so the audience is able to
identify who she is.
we didn't agree to use the
costume in the music video on the
digipak as it would of change the
whole theme of the artist and
challenge conventions that we did
not want to do, however we made
sure to stick to the colour palate of
the costume (blue, white and
black).
Mid and close up shots to
repeatedly show the artist
Links between ancillary work
For creating synergy between the digipak and
advertisement I have made sure to keep to
conventions of our music genre and not make any
changes to font, colour palate and the way the
album title and artist's name is written. As you can
see the text is always kept in the same clear, easily
read font as well as this it is always in white.
The audience would be able to recognise that the
digipak and advertisement are of the same artist
because of the same background gradient and how
the album title "losing" remains in the same style
across both products, it is also different from the rest
of the text making it stand out and identifiable to the
audience.
Successfulness of my ancillary work
In my opinion I think my ancillary is successful as it is very
similar to other products within our genre and our target
audience would be able to identify that. House music is
known for stand out colours, the blue gradient gives our
background a lot more energy than what a regular plain
black or coloured background would give.
When comparing my ancillary work to existing products you
can also see it meets conventions, the clear font is used a lot
within advertisements and digipaks and only the album title
and sometimes the artist's name seem to differentiate
helping them stand out.
As you can see when comparing to Calvin Harris' "I created
disco" artwork and Avicii’s “True” you can the same
background is kept between products. As well as this the
font also remains the same throughout products for the
artist’s name and album title, keeping clear font for other
text such as the track list and any details on the poster.
