Gun Control By Morgan
My Big Question Should the U.S Government be able to control and limit guns?
My Thesis: I don’t think gun control is practical in the US. Instead we should be working to stop the reasons for the crimes.
For Gun Control Gun Rights There are good arguments for Gun Control. And there are good arguments for Gun Rights
The Constitution Second Amendment: A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
Why? The 2nd Amendment is in the Constitution because it was an important right. If people did not have guns before the Revolution, we would still belong to England.
The States Each state in this country has its’ own laws about guns Let’s see how they are the same and different…
Texas Texan’s-Rights to use deadly force for means of self-defense ,without retreat, in their home vehicle or workplace. Castle Law-”the right to defend oneself from an imminent act of harm intuitive.” 1973-a 1973 law said you couldn’t shout you had to run away. A statute which required a person to retreat in the face of a criminal attack.
California:
Wyoming:
Florida: “New Gun Law Loosens Curbs” -headline, May 2, 2005 The stand” your ground” law ok to have guns to defend yourself, home, car etc. Similar to Texas’s “Castle Law”
New York:
New Hampshire:
Effectiveness of Gun Control Gun Laws don’t affect crime or gun related deaths as much as poverty unemployment and alcohol use do.
There is no right to bear arms in Japan Only shotguns that’s not easy. Must store locked weapons in a locker and give the police a map. Police can search anywhere, anytime Gun crime does exist but in very low numbers. Japan has had laws on weapon control since 1588, almost 500 years.
Hard to Pass any Gun Laws Senate juvenile justice Bill was amended to include tough background checks and safety locks. But then the house rejected it. House republican leaders made two separate laws one on youth culture and violent crime and another dealing with gun shows requiring checks. This passed in the House of Representatives, got killed in the Senate.
Attempts to pass laws Every year hundreds of laws are proposed in the Senate, House of Representatives, and individual states. Most are defeated before they can be voted on The rest simply can’t get enough votes
