MOTIVATION Tactics of motivation for effective individual and group behavior

Motivation Motivation means “to move” in a direction of our choosing path
Motivation is … Complex Physical & psychological Unique to each and every person Context-sensitive Not fully understood
Motivation- Basic Concept Motivation is the  INNER NEED  that  DRIVES  the individual toward  GOAL ORIENTED ACTION Inner Need  –  Energizes & Activates behavior Drive   –  propels behavior in a particular direction Goal   –  Incentive that gives satisfaction & reinforces perpetuation of needs
Motivation -Basic Concept  (cont.) Defined as the psychological forces within a person that determine: Direction of behavior in an organization; The effort or how hard people work; The persistence displayed in meeting goals.
Qualities of Motivation Energizes behaviors Directs behaviors Enables persistence towards a goal Exists in varying strengths Retained Motivation is the key to finishing your race with success
Traditional Approach to Motivation Carrot & Stick Approach Money is the only Motivator For a PRICE, workers would tolerate the everything unfair on their jobs
Positive & Negative Motivation Positive Motivation: Tend to move towards or motivated  in the direction where person has positive association Negative Motivation: Move away from that where person has negative association
Work & Motivation Why people work? Monetary & Non-monetary benefits Power, Pride, Love, Affection, Achievement Material Income & Psychic Income
Important Motivators Work itself Clear achievable goals Appreciation for good work Giving adequate responsibilities to employees Career growth
