Intelligence is defined as the ability to acquire and use knowledge to solve problems and adapt. There are multiple types of intelligence including linguistic, logical-mathematical, visual-spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalist. Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences identifies at least eight intelligences and acknowledges that all people have unique combinations of strengths in these areas. Approaching learning and assessment through multiple intelligences allows more students to successfully participate in the classroom.
