  • #35 They usually play during fiestas, religious and civic celebrations. -repertoire may include folk songs, popular music and dance music -bands was so remarkable that every town used to have two or more bands
  • #36 What are the instruments that make the Brass Band?
  • #37 Piccolo – shorter than flute/ the sound that it produces is thinner than flute Clarinet – has a single reed (thin strip of material which vibrates to produce a sound) mouthpiece/ a straight cylindrical tube with cylindrical bore (hole), and a flared bell Alto saxophone – commonly used in classical music concert bands, chamber music and solo repertoire. Tenor saxophone – easily distinguished by the bend in its neck, or its crook near the mouthpiece. Flute – aerophone that produces its sound from the flow of air across the opening.
  • #38 trombone – sound is produced when the player’s vibrating lips cause tha air column inside the instrument to vibrate / name means “large trumpet” / pitch is produced by sliding the valve. trumpet – has the highest register in the brass family euphonium– a valve instrument where it is known for its distinctive tone color, wide variety of character and agility. sousaphone– known as the bass, a type of tuba designed to be easier than the concert tuba to play while standing/marching. French horn – commonly known as the horn, the quality of the sound may also be controlled through the adjustment of lip tension in the mouthpiece and the operation of valves by the left hand.
  • #39 cymbals – consist of thin, normally round plates of various alloys / used in many ensembles ranging from the orchestra, percussion ensembles, jazz bands, heavy metal bands and marching groups/ the heavier the cymbals, the louder the volume/the thinner the cymbals, the fuller the sound, higher pitch and faster response Snare drum – known as the side drum / usually played with sticks or brush Bass drum– produces a note of low definite and indefinite pitch / varies in sizes
  • #40 -initially performed by the san Francisco de Malabon band at the proclamation of Philippine independence -considered as an “incidental music” which means a background music set into a particular event/occasion in a dramatic mood
