It is home to 47,000 plant species, 15,000 flowering plants, 89,000 animal species, and over 1,200 bird species. Various factors like relief, soil, climate influence the natural vegetation in India. To protect this natural heritage, the government has established biosphere reserves, national parks, wildlife sanctuaries and implemented projects like Project Tiger.
