Kia Ora, Talofa and Hi to the end the last week of Term 3.
Spring has come and it has been fantastic to see the mornings lighter and the evenings getting
longer :):):)
A BIG thank you to all the parents who came along and supported the school bi-annual “Book
Fair” - staff enjoyed “making bugs” in the afternoons and it was a great way to end the term with
students in their houses working and helping each other. Some photos of the Grand Bug Parade
appear on the next page.
Sing Out - 2014 - Thank you Miss Butson for working with the children in the choir - they sound-ed
fantastic last week at the Sing Out Choir Festival.
Gym Festival - Well done to Mrs Watt for getting the Girls Gym team ready - they also looked
great and participated very well in their events.
School Carpark - It is getting better in the afternoons - just remember - if we all use it properly,
no leaving your vehicles in the drop off zone and keep moving up the parks as the one in front
becomes vacant, then we will have a great flowing carpark. Thanks to the parents who are park-ing
across the road in the field - this makes a big difference to the number of cars flowing through
the entrance.
School Garden: In the holidays, the garden will be fenced and bark chips will be laid. All in time
for planting after the holidays.
School Uniforms - Please, please ensure your child’s clothes are named. We all try to take
care with clothing but no responsibility if things get lost. I know that, specifically the Junior
Teachers all have got buckets inside the classrooms for students to put jackets and tops, rather
than on the pegs outside. But this only works if the children put them in the buckets. Children
are reminded often - but we still get items left lying on the ground outside.
EDUCATION OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM - TERM 4:
Year 6’s - are off to Camp Cromwell - doing all those exciting things, biking, canoeing, sailing.
Years 1 to 5: “Shipwrecks” is the theme and the plan is:
Wednesday, 29 October : inter-house cooperative game competition.
Thursday, 30 October : inter-house school trip to Greenpoint Walk to view some old wrecks and
then to the Bluff Museum to see some relics from boats.
Friday, 31 October - Shipwreck Art Morning with a Shipwreck shared lunch.
The cost:
Year 1-4’s $6.00 per student. The school has offset this cost by paying for the buses. We
would appreciate if you could pay this cost as soon as possible in Term 4. A reminder will come
out during the first week of school - cost covers: Museum Entry, Beach Education (28th Novem-ber)
and food for shared lunch.
Year 5’s: $10 per student. On the Thursday night - they will be having a sleepover at school
and will be having breakfast the next morning, going home after lunch on the Friday - cost co-vers:
the above, plus food for supper and breakfast.
Staff will also require parent help on all three days - but particularly on the trip to Bluff - a notice
will come out during week two asking for helpers - so please calendar these dates.
We hope you all have a great two weeks holiday - enjoy the spring weather and the staff look
forward to seeing you all on Monday, 13 October for the last term of 2014 (which, by the way, is
9 weeks in duration!!!).

ABSENTEES: It is very important to explain
why your child is absent from school: There are
two main ways staff can record an absence: 1)
justified - due to illness, a medical appoint-ment,
or a breavement in the family and 2) un-justified
- is everything else. When we are not
advised that it is due to illness - we mark the
student as unjustified and when this percent-age
gets below 80% we are legally obliged to
advise the Ministry of Education’s Attendance
Service. Please help us help you.
We sold $1033 from the Book
Fair so this gave us a credit of
$310 to purchase books for
the library. These students
chose the books.
A BIG thank you to all parents
who supported our Book Fair.
