story told through a combination of
sung dialogue (recitative) and arias.
It is a combination of Music, Vocal
and Instrumental Acting, Visual,
Theatric, tied together by a storyline
COMPONENTS OF AN OPERA
1. Libretto - The text of an opera
2. Score - The book that the composer
and librettist put together.
3. Recitative - Declamatory singing, used
in the prose part and dialogue
of an opera. It may be
accompanied or unaccompanied
4. Aria - A song which poetically and
musically reflects dramatic feeling

1. Tenor - Highest male voice
2. Baritone - Middle male voice.

3. Bass - Lowest male voice

- He was born in Leipzig,
Germany on May 22, 1813.

"Die Meistersinger", "Tannhäuser",
and "Parsifal".

- Alexandre-César Leopold Bizet.
He was born on October 25, 1838 in
Paris, France. His realistic
approach influenced the verismo
school of opera at the end of the
