ACEA-Micrography
By: Ju Ahn
Analytical: -descriptive
Texture: Pen and Ink (Micrography)
Rhythm: the micrography does not just focus on one point. It leads your eyes around the whole
piece.
Focal Point: the boy in the foreground
Colors: Black and white only
Cognitive: -interpretive
I think she is trying to express that there are so many countries throughout the world that are
poverty stricken. Ju also shows the viewer that this is a serious problem throughout the world,
and that we should want to help by feeling the emotion come alive from her artwork.
Emotional: -subjective
Personally, Ju’s micrography made me realize there are many countries throughout the world
that are in need of our help. This piece of art makes me want to do everything I can to help
contribute to the cause of poverty stricken countries. It makes me feel sad and burdened knowing
that there are families in the world with absolutely nothing.
Application: -how to use what I learned
Like in my micrography before, you have to put emotion into what your drawing about. So, next
time I could use that emotion to make a better quality micrography by drawing about something I
deeply care about.
ACEA-Ethnography
By: Kristin Lowe (Me)
Analytical: -descriptive
Texture: Painting and some paint mixed with a little sand.
Rhythm: Gives off an ancient, tribal feel towards the viewer.
Focal Point: directs your eye around the whole art piece.
Colors: yellow, light, sky blue, and a dark brown.
Cognitive: -interpretive
I tried to let the audience be able to interpret what they wanted to without having to worry about
being right or wrong. I thought the piece was simple, and could be interpreted however the
audience would like.
Emotional: -subjective
I feel like this piece was fun to paint because I was able to choose what aspects I wanted to
express. It was also enjoyable to be able to paint tribal style paintings and make them look
ancient and antique-like.
Application: -how to use what I learned
Next time I can try using more techniques within my art pieces.
I thought the final high school art show has been the best one this year other than the IB

art display. There were a variety of classes, techniques, and themes throughout the entire show. I

thought the show was nicely done and well put together. It was my favorite show so far.

First, I liked that there were several different kinds of art pieces being displayed at one

time. For example, there were micrographys in one corner, paintings in another, portraits in

another corner, and studio art designs throughout the whole exhibit. I thought it was very unique

how there were multiple styles of paintings, the global issue micrographys, and the studio art

memory boxes and pillows all in one art show. I also thought there were a variety of techniques

used throughout the display of artwork. Also, I really enjoyed how the three different art classes’

work were all coordinated nicely in the show, and used the space wisely as to not clutter the

show.

Second, there were many techniques shown throughout the art exhibit. The first technique

I noticed was from our own painting class. It was the ethnography paintings we had finished. I
liked the style of the ethnographic paintings and not only did it bring life and color to the room,

but it also showed our class’ hard work. All the different techniques such as, the dotting or

adding sand into the paint, were used in one project, and I thought it was really interesting to

look at our ethnographic paintings. Also, I loved the global issue micrographys and not for the

reason that I have done one myself, but just because you really have to enjoy and know what you

are writing about in your drawing to be able to compose a good quality piece of art.

Last, I really enjoyed how there were many different themes throughout the art show. Not

only could you tell that there were art pieces from different classes, but every piece of art in the

show had a different theme or style. For example, every micrography drawing and ethnography

painting were about the same topic but each individual art piece had a different theme. Also, the

portrait drawings were not only about how a person should draw themselves onto paper, but it is

about how the person drawing sees themselves in life. For instance, they may see themselves as

serious, happy, sad, independent, proud, or humble. This is the theme they are drawing in their

portraits.

In conclusion, all the different classes, techniques, and themes were displayed well. Also,

I believe that because all the pieces were presented well, everyone was able to experience what

art class is truly about. It is not just about learning to paint or draw, it is about making pieces of

art that you truly care about. In the end, I really enjoyed the final high school art exhibit and I

thought it was a great success.
