The document details the major components and functions of a computer, including the CPU, RAM, hard drive, optical drive, and motherboard, outlining their roles in processing and storing data. It also describes various input and output devices such as keyboards, mice, monitors, and printers, and how they interact with the computer. Additionally, it provides basic instructions for manipulating computer equipment and preparing for tasks like using Microsoft Word.
Overview of the presentation with focus on popular computer components.
Details on input devices like keyboard, mouse, monitor, and desktop as essential parts of computing.
Explains hard drive, RAM, and their roles in permanent storage and data processing. Explains optical drive function and the importance of the motherboard in computer assembly.
Additional devices in a computer setup including USB drives, hubs, printers, and scanners. Discusses output devices like speakers, headphones, and projectors in multimedia applications.
Focuses on keyboard as an input device and provides a brief on related assignments.

Central Processing Unit(CPU)
The central processing unit (CPU) processes
all of the data that is accessed by the
machine. It is a small internal piece that is
located beneath the fan. Essentially, the
purpose of a CPU is to process instructions
through a four-part sequence of
fetching, decoding, execution and write-back.
11.
Random access memoryprovides a
buffer between the hard drive and
central processing unit. When files are
requested for processing, they transfer
from the hard drive to the memory.
12.
• A harddrive provides
permanent storage for
the operating system,
programs and files on a
machine. When files are
saved to the hard drive,
they are retained through
power outages.
13.
An optical driveis any drive that reads
the data through optic
technology, such as a laser. These drives
can read data from discs.
14.
Motherboard
The motherboard isan underlying circuit
board that holds all the computer
components together. Computer
components, including the
CPU, RAM, hard drive and optical
drives, plug into the motherboard. This
allows the separate components to
interact with each other to create a fully
functional machine. While each computer
part has a unique function, they would be
utterly useless without the unifying
motherboard.

Hubs are devicesthat have
many ports into which
network cables are plugged.
A hub takes the signal from
each computer and sends it
to all of the other
computers through the
network.

Manipulate a Computer
•Point the icon of the “computer”
and open it.
• Plug the speaker to the
computer and demonstrate the
function of the speaker.
• Connect the projector to the
computer.
• Point a video, open it, plug the
speaker and project it in the
