Miss K. Wright 4W

 Understand and value themselves and their
peers
 Appropriately identify and express feelings
 Develop decision making and problem
solving skills
 Become self-confident and self-accepting
 Recognise their strengths and limitations
 Interact positively with others
 Recognise personal safety and the safety of
others
 A holistic approach to
health includes the
wellbeing of not just
the physical self, but
also the mental and
emotional health of
an individual
 Students develop
attitudes, values, skills
and knowledge in

 PDHPE promotes
physical activity!
 Regular physical
activity (at least 30 min
per day) is important
for the ‘development
and maintenance of
optimum health’(NSW Board of
Studies, 2007, p.7)
 Students develop non-
locomotor, locomotor
and manipulative skills
when involved in sport
 Since the 1970s, the rates of obesity have dramatically
increased amongst school students world-wide.
 A healthy, balanced diet and regular exercise are conducive to
good health and wellbeing for children
 ALSO... ‘a healthy, active population improves productivity
and personal satisfaction, promotes pro-social behaviour and
reduces the occurrence of chronic disease’ (ACARA, 2014)
 Free play improves energy balance and enables children to
experience the positive benefits of movement, creativity and
friendship (Burdette & Whitaker, 2005).
What can you do as parents?
As a parent, it is important to be a positive role model
for your child. That means it is important to be
modelling a healthy and active lifestyle!
You can help to improve the health outcomes of many
students by promoting the importance of PDHPE in
schools.
Get your child involved in sport! They will develop
friendships and benefit from an active lifestyle!
