PDHPE Rationale
PDHPE encourages the participation
of all children in PDHPE ands aids them
to recognize the importance of maintaining
positive and healthy lifestyles. This is an
important Key Learning Area in
all NSW Schools.
PDHPE Aims
 Primary School Personal Development, Health and Physical
Education deals with physical, social, cognitive and emotional
growth, and development patterns.
 It aims to develop positive attitudes in students towards physical
activity and revolves around developing five essential life skills:
 Moving
 Problem Solving
 Communication
 Interaction
 Decision Making
• These skills will benefit students
in a variety of situations in both
their current and future lives.
Healthy Lifestyles
 Personal Development and Health (PDH) is all
about the promotion of healthy living.
 It focuses on developing the decision-making
skills of children to make healthy food choices.
 Provides guidance for appropriate attitudes and
behaviours towards healthy lifestyle choices.
• Encourages students to maintain positive
interpersonal relationships.
• Develops the understanding of self and
others.
• Provides knowledge and understanding of
the body and the physical processes
required to take care of it.
Physical Activity
 Participation in physical activity
is vital towards maintaining a
healthy balanced lifestyle.
 Development of the five essential
life skills are enhanced through
group and teamwork.
 Contributes to improving quality
of life through activities that are
beneficial to physical health, and
growth and development.

 Informs students about safety in key
areas including:
 Road Safety
 Cyber Safety
 Swim Safety

situations where personal safety may be
at risk and to learn to adopt strategies to
protect themselves.
