The disciples were gathered together in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost when suddenly a sound like a rushing wind filled the house and tongues of fire rested on each person's head. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages. A crowd gathered, amazed to hear the disciples praising God in their own native tongues.
Peter addressed the crowd and explained that what they were witnessing was the outpouring of the Holy Spirit promised by the prophet Joel. He proclaimed that God had performed miracles through Jesus, whom the people had crucified, but God had raised Jesus from the dead. Peter declared Jesus as both Lord and Messiah.
