PITCH
WORKING TITLE
I really like this title and think it is my favourite of the
three because I think the red really stands out so
people are drawn to it. The bold black font is framed
really well by the red making it eye catching. It is a
nice short, catchy title as it is easy to remember and
will stay in peoples head, quite like ‘NME’. I want my
magazine to be of a similar style to NME so I really
think this title shows that, so hopefully when people
see it they have some sort of idea of what is inside.
I really like the arrow background for this title, I think it is unique and quirky,
it is very different to my first working title as it is not similar to any other
music magazine title. The bold black writing on the yellow background
stands out very well and is very out there, hopefully this means when
people walk past it they will notice it straight away. I have stuck to the same
name but have changed it a little. Instead of using a acronym I have written
the title out in full words. I have done this so that people see the word
‘music’ so they can notice it is a music magazine straight away.
In this title I have combined some ideas from working title one and
two and developed them. I really like this one as it is so quirky. The
bright colours really make the title stand out and the arrow shape gives
it a unique edge. The font is really different from an other magazine
which will give it an individual edge. The black writing stands out really
well on the bright background.
Again, in this title I have spelt out the word music, so people can
identify it is a music magazine. Using the word ‘you’ makes people feel
that magazine is just for them, I like this because I feel the magazine is
catered for each individual.
GENRE OF MAGAZINE
My magazine genre will be indie rock. However, it is aimed at people who have a wide
taste in music and are willing to try different genres and new artists, therefore it will
include a tiny bit of other genres such as rock and pop. For example, people who enjoy
going to festivals and would appreciate a night in the dance tent just as much as a night
in the pit.
I have chosen to do this as I feel there is a gap in the market for this magazine. For
example Q and MOJO include different genres, however, they are targeted at a older
artist and I feel there is a gap for a magazine with a range of genres, however for a
younger age.
I feel that this is a good idea because it will appeal to different types of people and will
include something most people enjoy.
PUBLICATION PATTERN AND COVER
PRICE.
My publication pattern for my magazine will be monthly. I have chosen to do this because
my magazine will have a lot of information, will include freebies and have competitions,
therefore I feel there is enough information to keep the reader entertained and up to
date for a month.
As I have chosen to publish the magazine monthly, I can therefore charge a higher price
as the reader will not have to spend the money as frequently.
Although my audience are of a teenage age and therefore may not have a very high
disposable income, from my questionnaire I found the majority of respondents were
from a lower middle class background, meaning their household would have an average
income of around £16,865 to £50,595 a year. Along with the interviewee who said he
would be willing to pay around £5 for the magazine based on its content, I have decided
to price my magazine at £3.99 a month. I think this is a good value for money price to say
my magazine is released monthly. As my magazine is aimed at the teenage age it will be
affordable for them.
READER PROFILE
Jay is a 19 year old student currently studying music at Manchester university. He loves the
independence university has given to him and adores the freedom he has in Manchester. Jay is a very
skilled guitar player and is inspired to learn to play the drums but struggles to find the time with this
hectic life style of attending gigs and finding time to study.
Jays favourite bands are Kasabian and The Courteeners, he attends every concert they play in
Manchester and follows their music religiously, they are as he calls them ‘proper good bands’.
However, Jay is always willing to listen to new music and play around with different genres, however
he refuses to listen to chart music and he says its ‘over rated’ and ‘not even music’.
Jay uses spotify to help introduce him to new music. He loves how spotify is always introducing him to
new bands and styles of music, this has enabled him to become aware of festivals and concerts
around the country that he attended over the summer with his flat mates. However, they will never
replace his favourite festival, Leeds festival which he has attended every year for the past five years.
Jay is a keen social networker and loves sharing new bands he has found with his mates on twitter. He
also uses twitter to follow his favourite artists to keep up to date with the goings on in their lives.
Jay loves reading M4U as it gives him a variety of good music as well as giving him the ‘proper music’
that he loves. He loves that the magazine is at a good price and comes out monthly as it is something
he can afford even with a limited amount of money; it also gives him all the music information he
could need for a month.
A life without music for Jay, would be a ‘life not worth living, music finds its way to inspire him
everyday of his life and he couldn’t imagine it any other way.
Jay, 19, Manchester Interests
MISSION STATEMENT
M4U’s aim is to deliver the reader up to
date and honest information, we aim
to provide you with the latest music
gossip, as well as the new, the old and
the most brilliant music.
STYLE OF THE MAGAZINE
The colours in my magazine are going to be fairly basic, yet colours
that stand out. I have chosen to use mostly primary colours.
However I will be using black for text as this will really stand out if it
is surrounded by primary colours. Images in my magazine will be a
variety of colours.
The attitude of my magazine will be quite bold and
confident. This will be highlighted by the bright colours and
the artists included in my magazine.
Colours and
image styles
I will use.
In my magazine I am thinking of including
competitions for festivals and gigs such as Leeds
festival and Benicassim. I have decided to do this as
these are things that will interest my readers and also
encourage them to buy the magazine.
As my magazine comes out monthly and has quite a high price
of £3.99, I will be able to provide freebies to my readers. For
example maybe a upcoming bands new single, or free
headphones.
A
This is an example of an
article that will be in my
magazine. The background is
bright to catch peoples eye
and the text will be black to
stand out on the bright
background. I have included
all of the primary colours as
this will be the colour theme
of my magazine. My articles
will include Pull Quotes to
highlight shocking, or
important information in the
article. The sort of articles I
want to include are
informative, for example
information on a bands tour,
their new album and there
plans for the future. I also
want to include interviews in
my magazine with big
celebrities that meet my
magazines genre e.g. Alex
Turner.
These are the sort of fonts that I will use for headlines
in my magazine. I like them because their bold and they
stand out.
ABCD
abcd
Times new roman will
be the text that I use
to write my articles
in.
I really like this article. I like the heading,
the fact it is in a collage style and that it is
also a pull quote.
I also like the lay out of the text as it fits in
nicely at the bottom of the page, leaving
room for the main image, so we can
identify straight away who the article is
about. I also like the fact a medium long
shot is used as we can see her outfit, and
from this we can help to work out what
kind of person she is, her personality, likes.
This is the sort of style my article will
be. I like the fact that the main image
is so big so that the reader can tell
who the article is about. I like how the
main image almost looks 3D as it
stands out. This will really catch the
readers attention.
I like the black text as it stands out on
the blank background. I like the
interview style of the article, this is
something that I will include in my
magazine.
