MARKET SHARE
Pizza Hut is an American restaurant chain and international
franchise known for Italian-American cuisine including pizza and
pasta as well as side dishes and desserts. The company has over
15,000 locations worldwide as of 2015, and is a subsidiary of Yum!
Brands, Inc., one of the world’s largest restaurant companies.
Pizza Hut is an American restaurant chain. In India Pizza Hut
operates as not in the Pizza Hut division, but in the Yum! India
division. Pizza Hut entered India in 1996 with a USP of “dining
experience”. To penetrate the market, Pizza Hut redefined their
recipes to suit the Indian tastes.
Pizza Hut belongs to Restaurants and fast-food retail sector.
Demand (Revenue in Rupees):
2013-2014: Rs.711 crore
2014-2015: Rs.742 crore
2015-2016: Rs.830 crore (approx.)
The percentage increase of revenues is high as Pizza Hut has opened
100 new outlets across India. But there isn’t any steep rise as their
competitors are also opening new outlets and expanding their
businesses.
Demand of fast food sector:
2013-2014: $2.11 billion
2014-2015: $2.14 billion
2015-2016: $2.13 billion
There is a decline in demand in the year 2016 because food prices are
increasing.
Market Share: Pizza Hut’s market share is 27%
Pizza Hut’s market share is decreasing since 2010 as there are new

entrants in India in this sector and its direct competitor – Dominos
is expanding and indirect competitors such as McDonalds, KFC, etc.
are investing and growing rapidly.
Reasons for increase/decrease in demand and market share of the
firm
Pizza Hut sells pizzas, pastas, garlic bread and other fast food items.
But it has positioned itself as a dining restaurant and not a fast food
restaurant. It has a lot of competitors and the fast food market in
India is growing very rapidly. Pizza Hut has opened 100 new outlets,
its revenue has increased. But its market share has not increased in
the ratio of it increase in revenues and the reason for this is the
competitors have expanded their businesses and there are many new
entrants in this sector. To face the increasing competition, Pizza Hut
will expand their business in tier II and tier III cities. The dining
chain is also bulking up its menu. Soon, it will add 15 different pizzas
to its menu, inspired from regional cuisines and flavors from around
the country.
